Our School

Truckee Elementary School is a High Performing Title I school with a diverse campus that serves about 600 students from PreSchool to 5th grade. Our staff, community and students work together to encourage responsibility, integrity and an enthusiasm for learning. Our primary mission is to provide students with a solid educational foundation that includes the arts, science and character education. By developing well-rounded students, we ensure that all educational options are open for students as they move through the Truckee Tahoe Unified School District and beyond! We accomplish this mission in a safe, caring and supportive environment. Our mantra is: Be Safe, Be Responsible and Be Respectful.

Our site recognizes and celebrates the diversity of our school in many ways such as, by providing language support for families and students that speak a language other than English, by having a Community Liaison, who can help families with any school or non-school related need and by encouraging and supporting friendships across the cultures!

In addition, our school offers a wide range of enrichment and extension opportunities within the classroom and outside of the classroom. Many of these activities are possible as a result of support from Measure A, Arts for the Schools and SWEP. Enrichment and extension learning includes, but is not limited to, our hands-on Science Lab, music in our music room, Taylor Creek and Sagehen outdoor expeditions, art classes, our Green Team supported by Truckee High School students, high achieving and GATE students grouped for project-based learning, comprehensive Physical Fitness program and our character education program: Second Step. In each classroom, students have access to technology and visit our computer lab to learn such skills as keyboarding, coding, and robotics.

With the help of our PTO, the district, and many community partners including, Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships and the Shane McConkey Foundation, we are the district’s first “green” school.

Our school was the first to begin composting, using reusable trays in the cafeteria and using energy-saving light bulbs and hand dryers!

Parent support is a BIG celebration at our school! We recognize the importance of parents in a child's education and we provide multiple opportunities for parents to get involved with our great school! Whether it's daily in class volunteering or driving on field trips, we couldn’t have such a fantastic school without our parent's support!
